Do you have a question?

Below is a list of frequently asked questions, so if you have a question you can probably find the answer here. If not, you can fill in the question form and you’ll receive an answer as quickly as possible.

1 Question:

When should you use a lifejacket?

Answer:

  • If you can’t swim but do go on the water. This applies most of all to children;
  • If you are on open water;
  • If there is little assistance nearby;
  • If the water temperature is low;
  • In rough weather on the water;
  • During high-speed water-sports.

Children should always were a lifejacket on or near the water.

Do not economise when purchasing a lifejacket or buoyancy aid.
It may save your life!

2 Question:

Should I have a lifejacket or a buoyancy aid?

Click here, (Children weighing less than 30 kg must always wear a lifejacket!)

3 Question:

What sorts of vests are there?

Answer:

4. Question:

What’s the difference between an inflatable vest and a solid material foam vest?

Answer:

Inflatable vests are comfortable and are automatically and/or manually inflated by means of a gas cylinder. These vests demand a lot of maintenance and are therefore rather expensive. If the vest is badly maintained or used incorrectly, there is a risk that it may not function. Suitable for sailors, etc. and as a work vest.

Solid material vests are vests that have permanent inherent buoyant material They require less maintenance, are cheaper, and have a longer life. They are guaranteed to work as long as they are well maintained and used appropriately. These vests are available in various types and designs, depending on the material used. Suitable for situations where there is a great risk of falling in the water (children, surfers, waterskiing).

5 Question:

What should I pay attention to, regarding children and lifejackets?

Answer:

For children, we advise a foam-filled vest instead of an inflatable vest. In addition to this, you must teach your child to float and turn in a lifejacket. This is to prevent your child counteracting the effectiveness of the vest in a panic situation.

Our lifejackets ensure that a person is turned into the correct position (airways free of the water).

6 Question:

When should I not make my child wear a lifejacket?

Answer:

In shallow water in which your child can stand. If the child’s legs touch the ground when turning, the vest cannot turn over fully. (Rule of thumb: the water must be deeper than the height of your child.)

7 Question:

Disposable diapers (nappies) and lifejackets?

Answer:

Don’t do it! Even without a lifejacket, a disposable diaper (nappy) is dangerous for your child. The fact is that a diaper (nappy) will act like a lifejacket but in the wrong place. It forces the buttocks upwards and the head downwards. Your child can then drown. In this case, opt for a special diaper (nappy) pant.

8 Question:

What about an inflatable vest for small children?

Answer:

Don’t do it! Children will fiddle about with and twist the material and other parts, which will increase the chances of the automatic activation not working. Children also seldom have any idea how to activate the vest manually in an emergency situation. This is why we advise a solid material vest for young children!

9 Question:

I’m right on the border between two weight classes. Which vest should I buy?

Answer:

Buy the most comfortable vest and the one that fits your body the best. The vest must fasten above the belt and should not creep upwards. This tip applies only when you really are on the border between weight classes. In case of doubt, enquire at your water-sports shop.

10 Question:

Will my automatic lifejacket be activated by rain or spray?

Answer:

No.

11 Question:

Answer:

Have the Besto Inflatables inspected and approved every year by professional use and every two years by non-professional use. Please do not hesitate to call us for the address of an inspection station near by.
