How to maintain a BESTO vest
Never try to repair your vest yourself. Always go to the nearest dealer
or contact BESTO. We’ll always be pleased to help you!
Instructions for maintenance and use
Please note: A lifejacket or buoyancy aids will be effective only if:
- you have chosen the right category and model according the kind of use
you want it for.
- you have chosen the right size according the weight (without clothing)
of the wearer.
- you done, wear and maintain the jacket according the enclosed manuals.
- you wear the jacket each time when there is a risk of failing into
the water.
- you never wear it under need your clothing/jacket.
- you test the jacket before using it, so you check if the jacket
works as desired and needed (teach children how to turn/floatate in this
jacket.
- Check your lifejacket/buoyancy aid for damage regularly.
- Non-inflatable vests contain foam. You must check the effectiveness of
the vest in the water once a year.
- In the case of an (automatically) inflatable lifejacket, the salt tablet
and the gas cartridge must be replaced after each use. A replacement set
can be bought for this.
Extra: Inflatable, check if the Inflater is operational by
means of the users manual. Check also if the cylinder is full and not punctured.
Storage and maintenance
After use at sea, first rinse thoroughly with fresh water. Allow wet vests
to dry thoroughly before stowing them. Do not place the vest on or near a source
of heat but simply hang it up to dry.
Store in a dry, dark place where the conditions fall within the limits of
-30 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius. Do not attempt to repair or make
changes to the vest yourself. In the case of damage, send or take the vest
to the nearest dealer.
Remarks
- 100N/150N: Do not wear in combination with a safety harness. This can damage
the vest.
- Wearing buoyant clothing and waterproof clothing may influence the effectiveness
of the vest.
- For BESTO Inflatables, use only gas cylinders with a content of 31-33
g and a ½” UNF closure.
- Do not use a vest as a cushion (for sitting).
- Do not use in combination with a disposable diaper (nappy).
Check the following every time you use an inflatable lifejacket

Check the CO² cylinder
Unscrew
the CO² cylinder and ensure that it has not been bored through. If this
is the case, throw it away. Screw the cylinder in firmly by hand. For more
information, we refer you to the ‘rearming kits’.
Automatic version
Check
both safety indicators (see below). If one of the two green indicators is missing,
and/or the CO² cylinder is bored through, the lifejacket must be rearmed.

Manual version
Check
the safety indicators (see below). If one of these is missing, the CO² cylinder
is empty and must be replaced. For more information, we refer you to the ‘rearming
kits’.
